WHAT IS PAY EQUITY?
Pay Equity is the principle that equal work deserves equal pay regardless of an employee's race, gender, age, religion or other non-job-related factors. The federal law that addresses Pay Equity is the Equal Pay Act, which requires that men and women in the same workplace be given equal pay for equal work.
Pay Transparency laws require employers to provide pay range, benefits, and any other compensation for an open position, which can help promote pay equity.
Pay History laws prohibit an employer from requiring job applicants to disclose prior salary on applications or in pay negotiations, which can perpetuate the cycle of pay inequity.
